“ACKNOWLEDGMENTS” in “KO-OPS: The Rebirth of Entrepreneurship in the Soviet Union”
ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
Chronicling the efforts at economic reform and the rise of legalized entrepreneurship in the Soviet Union was a project literally filled with new twists and turns on a daily basis. It is a story that we could not have told without the assistance of others.
We would like to thank Lake Forest College and Northeastern University for financial support. The Harvard University Russian Research Center was a primary base for our research. We would also like to thank Mark Peysakhovich, Melissa Kemp, Rob Pontow, and most especially Gene Davidovich for marvelous research assistance. Linda Dunn’s computer skills helped us overcome some technical problems. We are also grateful to Martha Briggs of the Lake Forest College library and to the Slavic Library at the University of Illinois-Urbana-Champaign. At an early stage of our thinking, Problems of Communism published our paper on the subject of cooperatives and we are grateful to the journal’s editor, Wayne Hall, for his support. We owe an immense debt to Carol Gayle who read the entire manuscript with meticulous attention. She challenged our thinking and sharpened our writing. It is a better book for having been in her care.
