RUSSIAN TRANSLITERATION

The transliteration system used in this volume is that of the United States Board on Geographic Names (B.G.N.) with the single modification that Ц, is represented as tz, rather than ts. This system makes it possible, in almost every case, to unequivocally recover the original Cyrillic orthography of transliterated names and words.
