“ACKNOWLEDGMENTS” in “Of Memory and the Misplaced”
ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
This book is predicated on the pioneering work of Kerby Miller, Professor Emeritus of History at the University of Missouri who first brought these life writings to light. I am also indebted to Guy Beiner, Oona Frawley, and Jennika Baines, who offered guidance at critical stages of this book’s completion. Liam Mac Mathúna, Professor Emeritus of Irish at University College Dublin, generously read several drafts of the manuscript and offered insightful notes. Mary Immaculate College, Limerick, has been a kind and caring workplace during the writing of the book.
I am deeply grateful to my friend Éilís Murphy, who designed this book’s cover. The photograph, which Éilís carefully restored, features Nora O’Connor (center-top), her daughters, and her mother.
My partner, Tadhg O’Sullivan, has been a steadfast companion through long months of writing, inspiring me to think in new ways about the lives at the center of this research.
This book is dedicated to our daughter, Sibéal, who makes every day memorable.
