“The Arts of Thailand”
MUSEUMS have existed for a long time past as educational institutions for the intellectual information of communities and their visitors. The idea, however, of using museums as a means of promoting international understanding and encouraging peace in the world is more recent. It was with this in view that such an institution as the International Council of Museums came into being with the support of the United Nations Organisation through UNESCO.
It should therefore be a matter of great satisfaction to the intellectual world - and in fact to the world at large - to welcome this exhibition in the United States of selected works of art, the property of the Thai museums and of private persons or institutions both Thai and American, which will be circulated and displayed in the sponsoring institutions under the joint patronage of the respective chiefs of state, namely His Majesty the King of Thailand and His Excellency the President of the United States of America.
